These 4´ X 8´ polystyrene sheets were purchased from the local Home Depot. This material is easily shaped using a sanding block or small electric palm sander. |
| The bulkheads were cut from the 4´ X 8´ polystyrene sheets into 10" squares. The squares were 10" due to the scale of my Typhoon leaving ample material for cutting and sanding. |

|
The bulkheads were drawn onto the 10" squares with a pencil and then cut to shape using a band saw. Several were cut at one time to speed the process. |
|
Bulkheads being glued together to form the bow and stern. The bulkheads were glued together using 3M Spray Adhesive. When you glue polystyrene, make sure your glue does not contain chemicals which will melt it (acetone especially!!!) It was a good thing I had more polystyrene than I needed! Allow the glue to cure overnight. |

Once the bow and stern sections were glued together, the entire hull shape was glued and put into a homemade jig. The jig was constructed from 2" X 4" X 8´ pine, 1/2" X 10´ pipe and decking nails. After allowing the hull to cure overnight, it was shaped using a hand sanding block made from a pine block (2" X 4" X 12".) Next Step - Part 2 - Taping / Glassing |
