Los Angeles Fireboat 2
MAIN DECK

Part 6 - Aft Main Deck (continued)

After the rub rail had dried sufficiently, I flipped the deck over to apply some more glue. I also installed some bracing pieces to keep the deck from moving around.
This time I applied regular PVC cement to seal up the cracks and make the deck joints waterproof. Why so ... you say? Well, because when my fire monitors begin pumping enormous amounts of water, some of it may just land on the deck. I don't want any of the water to get inside the boat and ruin my electronics!
Next, it was time to install the Traditional ABS Channel. I purchased four (4) sections from Plastruct (see web site link on my Links page), and the dimensions are 5/8" X 30"; just enough to surround the entire hull.

Here, you can see I'm gluing/securing the port side rub rail channel in place. This was time consuming because only a small section could be glued at one time.
I worked my way down the port side ...
... and then around the stern ...
... and finally up the starboard side.
When the glued dried, it was time to remove the tape and simply enjoy the finished product.
The ABS Channel is going to be perfect for installing the rub rail. I´m going to use a foam material I purchased from Chesapeake Bay Rubber & Gasket Co., Inc. (see web site link on my Links page). More on this later!
