Los Angeles Fireboat 2
MAIN DECK

Part 3 - Forward Main Deck (continued)

Installing the port rub rail support was done the same way as the starboard one. With the deck secured in my vice, I used regular PVC cement to glue the pieces together. Tape was used to hold the pieces in place until the glue cured.
On the underside of the deck, I also installed a center support piece of Celtec. This prohibits the deck structure from sliding forward by resting against the hull lip at the bow.

After everything sufficiently dried, I installed the Forward Main Deck onto the hull. It is a tight and secure fit, but easily removable.

This method of installation may even eliminate the need for drilling holes and bolting it in place.
Next, it was time to install the Traditional ABS Channel. I purchased four (4) sections from Plastruct (see web site link on my Links page), and the dimensions are 5/8" X 30"; just enough to surround the entire hull.

I´ve made it a habit when designing my web sites to tell you about the things that went wrong. Well ... this is one of those. I used my kerosene heater to heat up the ABS plastic so I could bend the channel around the bow. Whelp, I applied too much pressure and the thing snapped in half. Whoops! No worries though as I will simply install one side and then the other. The seam will be filled to hide the break.

Here, you can see I'm gluing/securing the port side rub rail channel in place. This was time consuming because only a small section could be glued at one time.

Well, its finally finished! The rub rail channel is in place and secured; ready to accept the rubber material. But ... that will be later after finish sanding, priming and painting. Stay tuned!
