After applying two coats of epoxy resin on the duct taped hull it was time to begin laying on the fiberglass cloth. The cloth I used was purchased at the local Home Depot store and packaged in 9 square foot sheets. As you can see, the cloth is the woven kind. I like to use this particular cloth because there is less fiber separation when brushing on the resin. |
I was able to lay the cloth onto the hull in 5 sections
Each of the sections were laid down overlapping the previous section. |
| Each section was saturated with resin using a one-inch disposable brush to wet out the cloth and remove any air bubbles. |
As you can see, this was a messy procedure. I didn´t worry about dripping because a sheet of cardboard was used to protect my table top. |
| The excess cloth at the bottom actually helped direct the drippings toward the cardboard and not the underside of the hull. |
I didn´t worry too much about the cloth overlaps or even the duct tape overlaps at this point because at least two more layers of cloth will be applied. And ... after the cloth is applied ... several more layers of just resin will be applied prior to finish sanding. |
