BOAT DECK STRUCTURE

Part 5 - Handrail and Watertight Doors

The handrails, made from plastic rod by Plastruct (see their web site link on my Links page), were installed in two (2) steps. First, I drilled holes into the bulkheads for the handrail mounts and inserted a small piece of plastic rod. Then, after the glued had cured, I glued the plastic rod to the mounts. Final cleanup was accomplished by sanding the extra material away from the back side of the bulkheads.
I also drilled holes into the bulkheads to accommodate the watertight doors both starboard and port. After installing the doors and painting, a piece of clear Lexan® will be glued into place.

This closer view shows the outer port side with the watertight doors installed on both the Boat Deck structure and the Wheelhouse structure. These doors were purchased from Harbor Models (see their web site link on my Links page).
